I’m about to post a DIY on Radiator Hose issues and replacement on the GenII Viper. In your opinion would you prefer to see a step by step or just an overview as I discuss and upgrade to Mishimoto Silicon hoses?

I feel there is a lot of opinion based videos but nothing to actually show you how its done if you want to tackle it yourself.

I have it sitting at 23 minutes but is a step by step video at the moment. Wondering if I should chop it to not bore any viewers or keep it detailed?

Here is my intro video to the channel if you haven’t already seen it.

I would keep it in the step-by-step structure. I dont think people will get ‘bored’, you are showing and explaining what you are doing and what needs to be done. If people already know/arent interested, they will just scroll to the step they need.

I use step-by-step videos before I start with a more difficult repair. The step-by-step videos also make it easier for me to determine whether I should/could do the task myself or not.

Also worth mentioning: Maybe you could present all the tools you need for this job at the beginning of the video, before step 1.

One of my most popular videos is a how too. If it’s the only one out there it’s definitely the way to go

Should note that I misread the title as “what type of youtube comment do you prefer?”

I think its important to commit to one or the other. Detailed DIY videos are important, just the same as the quick overview sorts are. I wouldnt try to shorten down the DIY type, unless you have a lot of useless/filler space. Like if things can be sped up, repeated steps (like turning 8 identical bolts) skipped/streamlined, or removing dialogue.

I think a step-by-step is great. Abbreviated to cut out or fast-forward the tedious things like unscrewing 15 screws, but slowing down for noteworthy items.

Keep it detailed. Someone is going to get confused at one of the steps. I think I’ve seen it before where you can put time stamps for different steps? That would help a lot. When I get stuck on something, sometimes I have to watch that part of the video 5 time over going in and out of the house and it can be tedious reversing to that exact spot every time. Perhaps skip over “intro” to that step in the timestamp, the timestamp should be right before the meat.

Thanks for the feedback!

I have step by step and have time-lapsed me going through the motions after explaining what to do.

I’m going to make various videos with more exciting content, I just want to make sure the DIY videos are catered accordingly and don’t lose interest in the channel!

I agree. I have the motions time-lapsed after dialogue of what I will be doing next. Hard to make an informative DIY exciting but I want to have separate videos. Entertaining videos and informative. Hoping this combo will be best for the channel!

Thats how I have the video setup currently. Threw in a video of my roommate driving over a couch with his lifted Rubicon so hopefully that provides some entertainment :D

I love a good How-To, but what I absolutely hate is excessively long intros. I would prefer to keep it as Hey, this is my Viper, this is what we’re going to do, and then get straight to the action. If the intro takes more than 30 seconds I’m probably going to look for another video.

I think it’s always a good idea to start with an overview of what the job is trying to accomplish. This way, it’s more transferable if for whatever reason a viewer’s engine bay isn’t the exact same as yours. I see lots of videos that start halfway through with many parts out.

Looks pretty good. Keep it up!

I loved the little break from the action for something silly (Jeep vs. Chair). Keeps me interested in watching the whole thing.
